Professor and Five Students Arrested Over IGKV Exam Leak Using Endoscopic Camera

The technique exposed flaws in sealed-envelope safeguards, prompting a wider probe of past papers and question‑paper handling procedures.

Overview

  • The entomology BSc (Ag) exam was cancelled after officials received emails and WhatsApp alerts that questions were circulating shortly before the test on August 20.
  • Police said they traced the initial circulation to a student in Durg and arrested professor Yogesh Sonkesariya and five students within 36 hours, with two other students reported absconding and being sought.
  • Investigators allege Sonkesariya made a tiny hole in a sealed question-paper envelope, inserted a miniature endoscopic camera to record the paper, glued the opening shut and then reconstructed and sold the questions for about ₹11,000–₹12,000.
  • Officers seized cash, six mobile phones, a video recording device, cables and endoscopy equipment and registered FIRs under the Chhattisgarh Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act and relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
  • IGKV has rescheduled the paper for early September for roughly 1,200–1,500 students and state authorities have ordered reviews of printing, storage, transport and delivery methods with steps proposed to strengthen digital and physical safeguards.
