Profepa Shutters 26 Sawmills in Nationwide Anti-Logging Sweep Across 32 States

The agency says the coordinated sweep targets illegal timber supply chains to bolster forest protection nationwide.

Overview

  • Over September 25–26, Profepa led 71 simultaneous inspections of storage and transformation centers across all 32 federal entities with support from more than 700 security personnel.
  • Authorities secured about 3,793.3 cubic meters of timber along with 23 tonnes of charcoal and 175 kilograms of charcoal, and confiscated 47 sawmill tools and nine vehicles.
  • Michoacán recorded six closures and more than 600 cubic meters of wood seized, Sinaloa saw 844.5 cubic meters secured, and Chihuahua reported more than 611 cubic meters retained.
  • In Campeche, inspectors seized 23 tonnes of charcoal, while states including Aguascalientes, Baja California, Coahuila, Colima, Guanajuato, Tlaxcala, Yucatán and Zacatecas reported no irregularities.
  • The operation was coordinated with Sedena, the National Guard, Semar, the FGR, state and municipal police, and local ecology authorities, with administrative actions and criminal referrals proceeding.
