Overview
- On August 17, Profepa seized 40 protected psittacids in simultaneous actions at Guadalajara’s San Juan de Dios market and the Tianguis de Tonalá, detaining two suspects who were turned over to the FGR.
- The rescued birds—six white-fronted amazons, 32 orange-fronted parakeets and two lilac-crowned amazons—showed signs of stress and mistreatment and were transferred to UMAS and PIMVS for veterinary care as administrative procedures continue.
- That same day in Cintalapa, Chiapas, authorities sedated, handled and transported a jaguar under Profepa’s lead with support from the state prosecutor’s office, the National Guard and ZOOMAT, securing specialized care for the animal.
- On August 18, Profepa filed two criminal complaints after securing 3,455 m³ of pine, oyamel, oak and white cedar in Tlalpujahua, Michoacán, targeting irregular storage and processing centers near the Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve.
- The FGR confirmed receipt of the complaints and initiated an investigation to determine responsibility, while Profepa continues parallel administrative actions and custody of the seized specimens.
