Profepa Orders Partial and Total Temporary Closures in Yucatán and Mazatlán Over Environmental Breaches

The agency used Article 170 to seal both sites pending legal review.

Overview

  • Profepa imposed a temporary partial closure and halted work at the Ciudad Maderas Península Fase II project in Yucatán after inspectors documented serious environmental noncompliance.
  • The Yucatán inspection found 6,183 m² of vegetation removed outside the SEMARNAT‑approved polygon and irregularities across 151,766 m² of conservation areas that were supposed to be preserved.
  • Officials also recorded the introduction of exotic species and the absence of protective delimitation or signage in designated conservation zones at the Yucatán site.
  • In Mazatlán, Profepa ordered a total temporary closure of a beach construction where a 38‑meter concrete retaining wall was being built and the footprint exceeded what was authorized in a 2018 MIA exemption and a 500 m² Zofemat concession.
  • Inspection records in both cases are being integrated into administrative files for potential sanctions, with Profepa maintaining on‑site surveillance to prevent the resumption of activities.
