Overview

  • Profeco identified several brands that violated NOM-051-SCFI/SSA1-2010 by declaring nutritional values per 240 ml instead of the mandatory 100 ml and misplacing “Exceso de Calorías” and “Exceso de Azúcares” seals outside the main display area.
  • All tested products matched the net weight claimed on their packaging, confirming accuracy of the “contenido neto” labels despite other compliance issues.
  • Total sugar measurements revealed that Aurrera (97.4 g), Valley Foods (93.8 g), Choco Milk variants (90.6–87.2 g) and Cal-C-Tose (87.2 g) have the highest sugar levels per 100 g of powder.
  • Profeco flagged Bur Chers Natural, Chocomonk, Valorcao a la Taza and Swiss Miss Premium for containing non-caloric sweeteners associated with potential metabolic effects such as reduced insulin sensitivity in children.
  • The agency’s findings guide consumers toward compliant products and support WHO advice to limit free sugars to under 10% of daily calories by choosing lower-sugar or pure cocoa options.
