Profeco Study Finds Only Three Smart TVs Rate ‘Excellent’

The June 1 report shows OLED models lead on color, contrast and black levels, with widespread gaps in warranty and commercial information that could affect buyer rights.

Overview

  • Profeco published its Estudio de Calidad de pantallas LED on Monday, June 1, 2026, testing 49 Smart TV models from 13 brands using 343 lab measurements.
  • Only three models earned a global “Excellent” rating: LG OLED55C55C5PSA and two Samsung OLEDs, the QN55S85HAEXZX and the QN65S90HAEXZX.
  • The lab judged image quality on four technical criteria—color fidelity, contrast, black level and uniformity—which gave OLED panels a clear advantage in deep blacks and accurate colors.
  • Profeco documented common commercial-information failures such as incomplete warranties, extra requirements to validate guarantees and thin user manuals, and it advised buyers to keep receipts and check warranty seals.
  • The report notes usable budget options under 5,000 pesos and lists average market prices for top models while warning that some retailers currently show prices below those averages, a detail buyers should verify before purchase.
