Profeco Publishes Quality Ratings for 105 School Supplies Ahead of Discount Fairs

Fairs opening August 16 in 41 cities will offer up to 50 percent off supplies with free services designed to ease inflation-driven costs.

Overview

  • Profeco’s August Revista del Consumidor issue delivers lab-tested quality scores for 105 products across 37 brands, evaluating notebooks, pens, pencils, erasers, adhesives, rulers and scissors for durability, performance and safety compliance.
  • Scribe led unlaminated professional notebooks for tear resistance and water repellency, while laminated notebooks by Norma and Jean Book also excelled and one Estilo model showed ink-bleed flaws.
  • Among oil-based pens, BIC and Staedtler surpassed 2,000 meters of consistent writing without critical smudges, whereas Pentel and MAE models underperformed at under 750 meters.
  • Dixon, Kores, Pelikan, Officemax, Staedtler, Maped and Stúk pencils topped lead-durability tests, erasers from Artesco, Pentel and Paper Mate earned excellent marks for clean removal and Mae, Adherol and Resistol 850 led adhesive strength trials on paper and wood.
  • Families can compare prices and quality via Profeco’s Quién es Quién en los Precios tool and, from August 16, visit 41 nationwide fairs offering up to 50 percent discounts plus free consumer-protection services.
