Overview

  • On August 13, Profeco issued a formal notice requiring the PlayStation Store to display prices in Mexican pesos with all taxes and fees included at the point of sale.
  • The notice follows a monitoring exercise triggered by more than 100 consumer complaints under articles 34 and 7 Bis of the Ley Federal de Protección al Consumidor.
  • Profeco’s virtual store audit linked the PlayStation Store to Solutions 2 Go México, S.A. de C.V., establishing domestic jurisdiction for enforcement actions.
  • The agency has invited affected users to formalize complaints via phone, email and social media to strengthen its case.
  • Sony has yet to issue a public response and faces administrative procedures and fines of up to millions of pesos if it fails to comply.
