Profeco Names Best Powder Detergents, Flags Unproven Claims in October Lab Report

The watchdog’s latest audit spotlights unverified slogans to guide shoppers toward products that truly excel in specific cleaning tasks.

  • Profeco tested 49 powder detergents—26 for clothing and 23 multiuse—publishing results in the October Revista del Consumidor after standardized trials using label doses and water hardness of 206 mg/L.
  • Ace Oxígeno Activo, Persil (Colores Vivos and Universal), Viva variants, Carisma, 1-2-3 5 Beneficios, and La Morena were cited for slogans the lab could not substantiate, such as “Frescura increíble” and “Quitamanchas total.”
  • Despite the advertising finding, Ace, Ariel Revitacolor, Bold (Cariñitos de Mamá and Softech), Carisma, Foca, Persil Universal, Viva Higiene + Anti-olor, and 1-2-3 led in antipercudido for clothing, with El Milagro, La Morena, and Útil leading among multiuse products.
  • For removing salsa taquera stains, top performers were Perceptions Frescura Polar, Viva, and Viva Fresca Lavanda for clothing, and Perceptions Floral Cítrico among multiuse options.
  • All products met declared net content and showed alkaline pH with only slight color change after 10 washes; label checks under NOM-189 found El Milagro and La Morena lacked authorization to use the “Hecho en México” symbol.
