Profeco and Seat Launch Airbag Recall in Mexico for More Than 7,000 Vehicles

The consumer agency is overseeing a free replacement program after identifying ZF-Lifetec airbags that can rupture and hurl fragments.

Overview

  • Seat’s campaign covers 7,057 Altea and León units from 2009–2012 and 22 Ibiza 2025 and Arona 2023–2025 units sold in Mexico.
  • In affected Altea and León vehicles, dealers will replace the driver-side airbag gas generator at no cost to owners.
  • For the Ibiza and Arona models, the passenger-side airbag assembly will be replaced free of charge.
  • The program began on August 7, 2025 and remains open through August 7, 2026 with service available at authorized dealerships.
  • Seat reports no incidents in Mexico to date, and owners will be contacted by mail or can reach the company at [email protected] or 800 835 7328, with Profeco monitoring compliance.
