Pro‑EU PAS Wins Moldova Elections With Just Over 50% of the Vote

The outcome positions Maia Sandu’s party to govern alone on a program of deeper European integration.

Overview

  • With more than 99% of ballots counted, PAS has 50.03% to 24.26% for the pro‑Russian Patriotic Bloc, on turnout of about 52% with strong diaspora participation.
  • Projections indicate PAS will retain an absolute majority in the 101‑seat parliament, with estimates around 55 seats compared with 63 previously.
  • Igor Dodon and the Patriotic Bloc alleged fraud and urged peaceful protests, while the Kremlin said it would assess complaints and noted limited polling access for Moldovans in Russia.
  • Moldovan authorities reported extensive cyberattacks during the vote, saying around 4,000 websites were knocked offline and the electoral commission’s portal was targeted.
  • EU leaders including Ursula von der Leyen and Emmanuel Macron welcomed the result and pledged support for Moldova’s European path, as Ukraine’s Volodymyr Zelensky said Moscow failed to destabilize the country.
