Producers Ask Telangana High Court to Lift Ticket-Price Curbs Before Sankranti Releases

A division bench is set to hear appeals seeking suspension of a single-judge order that barred government-sanctioned hikes.

Overview

  • People Media Factory, producer of the Prabhas film The Raja Saab, appealed the December 9 order restraining the state from issuing memos to raise cinema ticket prices ahead of the January 9 release.
  • Producers T. G. Vishwa Prasad, Ishaan Saxena, and Sahu Garapati filed pleas tied to The Raja Saab and Mana Shankara Varaprasad Garu seeking relief for higher pricing and permissions for special shows.
  • An earlier ruling by Justice Shravan Kumar suspended a Chief Secretary memo that had allowed higher rates for Akhanda 2, and the cinematography minister later said hike requests would not be considered.
  • According to reports, the Mana Shankara Varaprasad Garu team sought Rs. 600 for January 11 premieres and proposed Rs. 227 in single screens and Rs. 395 in multiplexes for January 12–18.
  • With The Raja Saab’s Hyderabad premieres expected within 48 hours of the latest filings, the industry awaits the High Court hearing and any subsequent government approvals.
