  • The body of an unidentified man was discovered on Aug 15 during a routine inspection of the Blue Line tunnel between Park Street and Esplanade stations.
  • A burn injury on the victim’s right wrist prompted the on-duty Emergency Medical Officer to consider electrocution as a possible cause of death.
  • An unnatural death case has been registered at New Market police station and the man’s photograph has been circulated across Kolkata and neighbouring districts to establish his identity.
  • Authorities are examining CCTV footage and reviewing platform security deployments to determine how the man accessed the electrified tunnel undetected.
  • Metro engineering staff, the Railway Protection Force and Kolkata Police coordinated to remove the body by 7:00 am and normal Blue Line services resumed without disruption.
