Overview
- The disruption at London’s Royal Albert Hall lasted more than 10 minutes, drew boos from parts of the audience, and ended after security removed protesters before the programme restarted in a new order.
- The BBC said the concert was paused for a few minutes and its Radio 3 live broadcast switched to pre-recorded music, adding the venue dealt with the incident swiftly and apologising for the interruption.
- Members of Jewish Artists for Palestine unfurled banners and shouted slogans including “The MSO has blood on its hands” and “you silenced Jayson Gillham,” with signs reading “complicit in genocide.”
- Gillham is suing the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra over a cancelled August 2024 performance after he spoke about journalists killed in Gaza and performed a piece dedicated to them; the orchestra later called the cancellation an error and denied discrimination.
- A federal court has set the case for trial on 1 December, and Gillham has reached an in-principle settlement with former MSO managing director Sophie Galaise while continuing his action against the orchestra.
