Overview
- About 40 activists entered the Technical University of Munich’s main building during a Friday evening protest, unfurled a banner, and set off pyrotechnics on the roof.
- Roughly 500 people had marched earlier under the slogan “Students against TUM Complicity,” with organizers including Uni for Palestine, Palästina spricht, and Klasse gegen Klasse München.
- Inside the entrance hall, protesters used a megaphone to issue demands, including renaming the space after Al-Jazeera journalist Hossam Shabat, whom Israeli authorities allege was a Hamas member and sniper.
- The group left after about two to two and a half hours following a threat of trespass charges; police described the demonstration as largely peaceful and later secured the building’s entrances.
- TUM says slogans were smeared on interior walls and plans a criminal complaint for property damage, while any trespass filing remains undecided and no immediate charges were reported.
