• Priyanka Chopra marked Barfi!’s 13th anniversary with an Instagram post recounting her journey to play Jhilmil.
• She recalled that director Anurag Basu initially couldn’t picture her in the role and proposed a five-day workshop to explore the character.
• The preparation involved deep autism research, meetings with children on the spectrum and unconventional acting exercises in Basu’s Aram Nagar office.
• Chopra revealed that many of Jhilmil’s scenes were improvised on set and that the film’s two-year shoot ultimately yielded box office success, seven Filmfare Awards and India’s 2013 Oscar submission.
