Overview
- Arguing before Justice Jyoti Singh, Priya Kapur’s counsel said misspellings, wrong addresses and similar errors do not invalidate a will, and noted no one has disputed the signatures of Sunjay Kapur or the attesting witnesses.
- The plaintiffs, Samaira and Kiaan, allege the document is fabricated and point to repeated misspellings of half-brother Azarius’s name, incorrect addresses, a missing schedule and the use of a feminine pronoun in the declaration clause.
- Priya’s side maintains the bequest is not unusual and says Sunjay had already provided for his children via a trust, including a reported ₹1,900 crore transfer a day before their suit was filed.
- The children say the will surfaced only at a July 30 family meeting following Sunjay Kapur’s death in June and filed their challenge on September 9 seeking shares of the estate reportedly valued at about ₹30,000 crore.
- The Delhi High Court proceedings are ongoing, with the matter listed to resume on Friday.
