Private Registered Jobs Keep Falling in Argentina After June SIPA Data

Persistent job losses point to weak demand that could stall any near‑term labour recovery.

Overview

  • The June 2026 SIPA dataset shows private registered salaried employment fell 0.1% from May and left the first half of 2026 0.5% below December 2025 levels.
  • Consultancy Invecq reports the private formal sector lost nearly 46,000 salaried positions in the first half of 2026 and about 246,300 jobs since November 2023, while SIPA counts more than 354,000 total registered salaried jobs lost since that date.
  • Job losses are concentrated in industry, construction and commerce, which together shed roughly 93,000 posts since June 2025, and several provinces such as Salta recorded six‑year lows in private registered employment.
  • The RIFL hiring incentive, in force since May 1, 2026, has not produced an observable rebound in registered hiring according to multiple consultancies that analyzed the June and early third‑quarter indicators.
  • Registered job losses have coincided with an 8% rise in monotributistas and a near 4.8% increase in informal work since November 2023, a shift that lowers tax contributions and may reduce household incomes and social protections for affected workers.
