Overview
- The Learjet 60 departed Austin for North Eleuthera and crashed over a Cresthaven neighborhood at about 12:50 p.m. on Sunday, November 1, killing all nine people on board.
- U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy confirmed the fatalities and the FAA has dispatched an investigative team to the scene to lead the inquiry.
- On-scene reports and video footage show the jet losing altitude rapidly, striking a street with a large impact and fire, and leaving a deep crater in the roadway.
- Officials have not yet confirmed whether anyone on the ground was injured or killed and emergency crews are securing the area while investigators collect evidence.
- The FAA/NTSB-led probe could take days to weeks to determine a cause and may prompt local road closures and further emergency measures as investigators review flight data, maintenance records and witness accounts.
