Prison Officer Convicted Over Inmate Affairs and 'Spice' Smuggling Plot

The judge warned of substantial jail terms as the court schedules sentencing in January.

Overview

  • A Southwark Crown Court jury found Isabelle Dale, 23, guilty of two counts of misconduct in public office and of conspiring to convey a List A prohibited article.
  • Prosecutors said Dale had sex with inmate Shahid Sharif in HMP Coldingley’s multi-faith room on July 19, 2022, a CCTV blind spot where two prisoners acted as lookouts.
  • After Sharif moved to HMP Swaleside, Dale kept contact by phone, emails and visits, sending love letters that investigators said were impregnated with synthetic cannabis.
  • Evidence showed Dale used Sharif’s drug-dealing Snapchat to source Spice via associate Lilea Sallis and collect supplies in Brighton; police later found carbon paper in her car used to foil prison X-rays.
  • Investigators uncovered messages indicating a sexual relationship with a second inmate, Connor Money; Sallis was also convicted on the smuggling charge, and both women were granted unconditional bail pending a January sentencing date.
