Priscilla Funnels Moisture North, Bringing SoCal Thunderstorms and Inland Flood Risk

Forecasters expect localized mountain downpours with coastal cities seeing only light, muggy conditions.

Overview

  • From Thursday through Saturday, storms could drop 1 to 2 inches over the San Bernardino, Riverside and San Diego County mountains, with isolated flash flooding, the National Weather Service said.
  • Coastal and urban Southern California are forecast to stay mostly cloudy and humid, with the coastal basin generally receiving less than a tenth of an inch of rain.
  • Farther east, hazardous weather outlooks cover parts of Arizona, Utah and Colorado, where 2 to 4 inches of rain are likely and up to 6 inches are possible, according to federal forecasters.
  • As of Wednesday morning, Hurricane Priscilla was about 200 miles off Baja’s southern tip with 75 mph winds and was expected to weaken, and a tropical storm watch remained in effect for Baja California Sur.
  • Forecasters do not expect impacts to match last month’s deadly Mario event, and moisture should exit Southern California by Sunday as heavier rains linger inland into early next week.
