Prince William to Launch 'Ready Together' Community Emergency-Preparedness Scheme

The project is designed to turn neighbourly willingness into local plans and tools to help towns face rising flood and wildfire risk.

Overview

  • Prince William will travel to Ilminster on Tuesday to formally unveil Ready Together and take part in simulated emergency-training exercises with volunteers and young people.
  • Ready Together is a National Emergencies Trust project that provides practical guidance for communities to prepare for and respond to sudden crises such as floods and wildfires.
  • Kensington Palace said research shows many people want to help in an emergency but far fewer feel their communities have the structures and plans needed, and the scheme aims to bridge that gap.
  • During the visit the prince will meet the Ilminster Resilience Group, visit Sweet Surprise cafe, and finish at Ilminster Fire Station to review mapping and forecasting tools used by Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service.
  • The visit follows William's recent warnings that extreme weather events are happening more often and could persuade more local groups to adopt training, planning and forecasting tools to reduce harm in future emergencies.
