Prince William Presents CBEs to Former Rugby Players for MND Fundraising

Rob Burrow and Kevin Sinfield recognized for raising over £15 million to combat Motor Neurone Disease

  • Prince William surprised former rugby players Rob Burrow and Kevin Sinfield by presenting them with their CBEs at Headingley Stadium in Leeds, praising their fundraising efforts for Motor Neurone Disease (MND).
  • Both men were awarded CBEs in the New Year’s Honours list after raising more than £15 million to combat MND through a series of extraordinary challenges.
  • Mr Burrow was diagnosed with MND in December 2019, two years after retiring from his position as scrum half at Leeds Rhinos, for whom he played throughout his professional career.
  • Since his diagnosis, Mr Burrow and Mr Sinfield have put enormous time and energy into raising money and awareness for MND, with Mr Sinfield completing several endurance challenges including running seven marathons in seven days.
  • The funds raised have been used to support a collection of charities and to build the Rob Burrow Centre for MND, which aims to meet all the needs of an MND patient and their families in one building.
