Prince William Partners With Gordon Brown to Furnish 250 Homes in Push to Curb Homelessness

Donations from major retailers will equip new tenancies with essentials shown to improve tenancy sustainment.

Overview

  • Homewards has teamed up with The Multibank to provide furniture and household goods for at least 250 homes across six flagship locations: Aberdeen, Bournemouth, Christchurch & Poole, Lambeth, Newport, Northern Ireland and Sheffield.
  • IKEA, B&Q, Bosch Home Appliances and DFS have committed brand-new surplus items, with contributions totaling more than £1 million in value.
  • The effort will support Homewards’ Innovative Housing Projects and scales a tested furnishing model across the UK’s four nations.
  • Research cited by the partners indicates people are about 12.5% more likely to sustain a tenancy when provided with essential items and furniture.
  • Homewards, launched in 2023 as a five-year Royal Foundation programme, now counts more than 100 local initiatives and plans for around 300 homes, with the announcement coming as UK homelessness has increased and ministers prepare a prevention-focused strategy.
