Prince William Opens Rob Burrow Motor Neurone Disease Centre in Leeds

Backed by a £6.8 million community campaign, the UK's first purpose‑built motor neurone disease hub unites care, research, education, family support.

Overview

  • William inaugurated the facility at Seacroft Hospital on Nov. 20, touring the site and meeting staff, patients and the Burrow family.
  • The centre is the first in the UK designed specifically for motor neurone disease, combining diagnosis, clinical care, research, education and holistic support.
  • The project was funded through a £6.8 million drive led by Leeds Hospitals Charity and Dr Agam Jung, with major backing from Kevin Sinfield, whom William said accounted for over 40% of the total.
  • The opening fulfilled a request Rob Burrow made when William presented CBEs to him and Sinfield in January 2024, with the Prince telling the children their father’s legacy will endure.
  • After asking what the team still needed, William arranged a coffee machine for the centre, accompanying it with a note wishing everyone “a well deserved moment of pause.”
