Overview
- Speaking at the United for Wildlife summit in Rio, the Prince announced a partnership between the Royal Foundation, COIAB and the Podaali Fund, described as the first indigenous-led fund covering the Brazilian Amazon.
- The collaboration, which also involves Rainforest Foundation Norway and Re:wild, will expand legal aid, establish an emergency support fund and raise awareness of Indigenous rights.
- The emergency response is expected to support at-risk leaders across nine Amazon states with evacuations, safe houses, secure communications and humanitarian aid.
- He cited more than 1.7 million hectares of Amazon clearance in the past year and 120 environmental defenders killed or disappeared in 2024, representing over 80% of cases globally.
- He reported progress on a pledge to insure 10,000 rangers in five years with over 6,000 insured in year one, staged an Earthshot drone show in Rio and will head to COP30 in Belém to press for broader action.
