Prince William Backs Oman Expedition Inspired by British Explorer

The Prince of Wales co-patrons a desert trek retracing Bertram Thomas's 1928 journey to spotlight Oman’s natural heritage and climate challenges.

The expedition, co-patroned by Prince William and Oman's Crown Prince Theyazin bin Haitham, will follow the 1928 route of British explorer Bertram Thomas along Oman’s coastline.
Led by Mark Evans OBE, the month-long journey will combine camel travel and modern technology to highlight Oman’s biodiversity and environmental challenges.
The initiative aims to engage young people in Oman and globally, using podcasts, social media, and real-time updates to share stories about the region’s natural heritage.
Prince William emphasized the expedition’s role in showcasing the damage caused by climate change and fostering UK-Oman relations, recalling his own visit to Oman in 2019.
The group of six explorers will cover 25-45 kilometers daily, with support from local youth and a focus on slow travel and cultural exchange.
