The Prince of Wales joined close friends for a personal outing to watch his favorite team, Aston Villa, face AS Monaco in a 1-0 defeat.

Prince William traveled to Monaco to watch Aston Villa play AS Monaco in the UEFA Champions League at Stade Louis II on January 21, 2025.
The outing included two of his longtime friends, Thomas van Straubenzee, godfather to Princess Charlotte, and Nicholas van Cutsem, godfather to Prince Louis.
Aston Villa lost the match 1-0, dealing a setback to their hopes for automatic qualification to the tournament's knockout stage.
William’s trip followed his recent engagement with Centrepoint, a homelessness charity he has supported for 20 years, and preceded a planned visit to Liverpool for community work.
The Prince has been a passionate Aston Villa supporter since his teenage years, a connection tied to the team’s historic 1982 European Cup victory, the same year he was born.
