Prince William and Jordan’s Crown Prince Hussein Visit RAF Benson to Spotlight Forces Ties

The helicopter-trained heirs focused on squadron training to show shared support for service members.

Overview

  • At RAF Benson in Oxfordshire, the pair toured operations, met trainee aircrew and staff from No. 28 and No. 22 Squadrons, heard about deployment experiences, and viewed technicians and aircraft in the No. 28 hangar.
  • Kensington Palace said the engagements highlighted their close relationship as well as their mutual respect for the Armed Forces.
  • Catherine, Princess of Wales, made an unannounced appearance at Windsor Castle to welcome Crown Prince Hussein and Princess Rajwa before the base visit.
  • Both heirs are qualified helicopter pilots, with Prince William previously serving in search and rescue with No. 22 Squadron and as an air ambulance pilot, and Crown Prince Hussein completing Royal Jordanian Air Force pilot training in 2019.
  • During the UK visit, Princess Eugenie hosted Princess Rajwa for a charity visit showing how artwork is used in health care settings to support mental health.
