Prince Rahim Al-Hussaini Aga Khan V Named Spiritual Leader of Ismaili Muslims

Following the passing of Aga Khan IV, his son assumes leadership as the 50th hereditary Imam of the Shia Ismaili community.

Prince Karim Al-Hussaini Aga Khan IV, the 49th hereditary Imam of the Shia Ismaili Muslims, passed away on February 4, 2025, in Lisbon, Portugal, at the age of 88.
Prince Rahim Al-Hussaini Aga Khan V, the eldest son of the late Aga Khan IV, was named his successor as the 50th hereditary Imam, as designated in his father's will.
The Ismaili community, numbering 12 to 15 million across 35 countries, recognizes the Aga Khan as a direct descendant of the Prophet Muhammad and a spiritual leader.
The Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), established by Aga Khan IV, will continue its work under the new Imam, focusing on education, healthcare, cultural preservation, and climate initiatives.
Funeral ceremonies for Aga Khan IV are scheduled for February 8 in Lisbon, Portugal, with a private burial in Aswan, Egypt, on February 9, followed by a homage ceremony on February 11.
