Following the passing of Aga Khan IV, his son assumes leadership as the 50th hereditary Imam of the Shia Ismaili community.
- Prince Karim Al-Hussaini Aga Khan IV, the 49th hereditary Imam of the Shia Ismaili Muslims, passed away on February 4, 2025, in Lisbon, Portugal, at the age of 88.
- Prince Rahim Al-Hussaini Aga Khan V, the eldest son of the late Aga Khan IV, was named his successor as the 50th hereditary Imam, as designated in his father's will.
- The Ismaili community, numbering 12 to 15 million across 35 countries, recognizes the Aga Khan as a direct descendant of the Prophet Muhammad and a spiritual leader.
- The Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), established by Aga Khan IV, will continue its work under the new Imam, focusing on education, healthcare, cultural preservation, and climate initiatives.
- Funeral ceremonies for Aga Khan IV are scheduled for February 8 in Lisbon, Portugal, with a private burial in Aswan, Egypt, on February 9, followed by a homage ceremony on February 11.
