Prince George RCMP Arrest Suspect in Hit-and-Run That Injured Cops for Cancer Riders

RCMP have impounded a suspect vehicle, seeking dashcam or surveillance footage to aid their investigation into the crash that left two charity cyclists seriously injured.

Overview

  • The collision occurred around 9 a.m. on July 8 near North Ospika Boulevard and McRae Avenue as riders trained for the Cops for Cancer Tour de North.
  • Investigators seized a newer model black Dodge Ram 1500 and arrested a male suspect later that afternoon based on witness accounts of high-speed flight down McDermid Drive and Tabor Boulevard.
  • RCMP are appealing for any dashcam, surveillance or phone video capturing the vehicle’s movements before and after the impact to strengthen their case.
  • Both the RCMP officer and the community rider struck in the crash remain hospitalized with serious injuries as supporters and organizers mobilize for their recovery.
  • The Cops for Cancer Tour de North fundraising ride is set to begin on September 12 between Prince George and Prince Rupert, with first responders and volunteers cycling hundreds of kilometres for childhood cancer research.
