Overview

  • Prince Edward will represent the King in Papua New Guinea from September 14–17 for the nation’s 50th independence commemorations.
  • He will attend a dawn flag-raising and state banquet, present new Regimental Colours to the First Royal Pacific Islands Regiment, and confer 50th Anniversary King’s Medals, with additional stops at the National Court Complex and community meetings in Port Moresby.
  • From September 18–22, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh will visit Osaka and Tokyo with engagements focused on youth opportunity, sustainability, innovation, education, and women in leadership.
  • The couple will tour the UK and Japanese pavilions at Expo 2025 in Osaka’s Kansai region, as part of efforts to deepen UKJapan ties.
  • Their travel means they will not take part in the September 17–19 state visit of President Donald Trump to the UK, while Sophie also has a confirmed solo visit to Alberta, Canada, on September 4.
