Prince Andrew’s 2011 Email to Epstein Says ‘We Are in This Together,’ Contradicting His 2019 Claim

The disclosure has sharpened calls for the King to distance the duke further, following earlier court references to the same message.

Overview

  • Multiple UK papers published an email dated 28 February 2011 in which Andrew told Jeffrey Epstein to “keep in close touch,” said “we are in this together,” and signed off as “A, HRH The Duke of York, KG.”
  • The message was sent the day after the Mail on Sunday ran the well-known photograph of Andrew with Virginia Giuffre, and it appears to conflict with his 2019 Newsnight statement that he had no contact with Epstein after December 2010.
  • The outlets report the address used by Andrew was verified, Epstein’s address has appeared in court records, and a portion of the same exchange surfaced earlier this year in FCA filings in the Jes Staley case.
  • Buckingham Palace and the Duke of York declined to comment, while commentators renewed calls for deeper royal distancing and The Times reported the King has signalled Andrew and Sarah Ferguson will not be welcome at Christmas.
  • Andrew settled Giuffre’s civil case in 2022 without admitting liability, and US congressional materials tied to Epstein are under review for release after redactions, which could produce further document disclosures.
