Prince Andrew Adviser’s Letters to Alleged Chinese Spy Raise National Security Concerns

Dominic Hampshire, a senior adviser to Prince Andrew, described the prince’s 2019 Newsnight interview as 'hugely ill-advised' in a letter to Yang Tengbo, an alleged Chinese spy.
Hampshire praised Yang’s loyalty to Andrew and authorized him to act on behalf of the prince in China for an investment initiative called the Eurasian Fund.
Yang, who attended Andrew’s private 60th birthday celebration, was described as sitting at the 'very top' of the prince’s trusted network in correspondence recovered by UK authorities.
UK officials barred Yang from re-entering the country in 2023, citing national security risks and concerns over his ability to facilitate connections between prominent UK figures and Chinese officials.
Yang denies the allegations and is seeking to appeal the decision, criticizing the UK's inconsistent approach to relations with China and defending his business record.
