Prime Suspect in 1977 Easey Street Murders Faces Charges After Extradition to Australia

Perry Kouroumblis, 65, has been charged with two counts of murder and one count of rape in connection to the brutal killings of Suzanne Armstrong and Susan Bartlett nearly five decades ago.

Perry Kouroumblis, a dual Greek-Australian citizen, was extradited from Italy to Australia after being arrested in Rome in September under an Interpol red notice.
The 1977 murders of Suzanne Armstrong, 27, and Susan Bartlett, 28, in their Melbourne home have been one of Victoria's most infamous cold cases, with both women found stabbed multiple times and Armstrong sexually assaulted.
Police reopened the investigation in 2017 using advancements in DNA technology, identifying Kouroumblis as a key suspect and offering a $1 million reward for information.
Kouroumblis, who has maintained his innocence, lived near the crime scene at the time and was 17 years old when the murders occurred; he first came to police attention shortly after the killings when he claimed to have found a bloodied knife near the area.
Kouroumblis appeared in Melbourne Magistrates' Court on Wednesday and is set to remain in custody, with further legal proceedings scheduled for February 2025.
