Overview
- Tarun Kapoor, an adviser to the Prime Minister, visited Dankuni station with Eastern Railway General Manager Gitika Pandey and other senior officials to review ongoing works.
- Kapoor inspected the station operating layout, the booking counter and One Station One Product stalls to assess passenger amenities and operational efficiency.
- Eastern Railway has completed several redevelopment items at an estimated cost of Rs 18.66 crore including the main building ground floor, porch, circulation and parking areas, platform surfaces, sheds, lighting and train information/GPS clocks.
- The rail ministry has sanctioned Rs 27.18 crore for yard remodelling to extend shunting lines and upgrade signalling and interlocking, and authorities are preparing DPRs for a Dankuni coaching terminal and a Dedicated Freight Corridor link to Surat.
- Dankuni handles more than 30,000 passengers a day and its upgrade is meant to ease passenger flow and create a freight and coaching hub that could speed goods movement and reduce congestion on the Howrah–New Delhi corridor.
