Prime Accused in Kolkata’s Gulshan Colony Shootout Arrested in Delhi

Police traced the fugitive to a New Delhi hideout after a 10‑day search based on a tip.

Overview

  • A Kolkata Police team arrested Mohammad Firoz, also known as Mini Firoz, near Ajmeri Gate on Sunday night and placed him on transit remand to bring him to Kolkata.
  • Investigators said he had been on the run for 10 days, uploading videos while avoiding mobile-phone use, which complicated efforts to track him.
  • Officials stated he is booked under BNS sections 109/3(5)/324(2)/351(3), sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act, and section 9 of the West Bengal Maintenance of Public Order Act.
  • Police reported seizing multiple weapons and said four others—Mohammad Amber alias Mohammad Nafis, Md. Sajid, Ahmed Hossain alias Md. Madhu, and Raja Khan—are already in custody.
  • CCTV footage from September 11 shows an extended spree of gunfire, crude bombs, vandalism, and assaults in Gulshan Colony, which residents attribute to a syndicate rivalry targeting supporters of councillor Sushanta Ghosh.
