PRF Reports Lower Christmas Crash Numbers as New Year Patrols Log Speeding and Four Deaths in Ceará and Rio Grande do Norte

PRF says enforcement remains in place through school vacations into Carnival to curb risky driving.

Overview

  • During Operação Natal, PRF recorded 1,196 traffic incidents nationwide with 111 deaths and 1,347 injured, a decline from the same 2024 window.
  • In Acre, PRF counted eight Christmas-period crashes, with officers citing driver inattention, late reactions and unsafe following distance as the main factors.
  • In Ceará’s New Year operation, PRF tallied 635 infractions, including 349 for speeding, alongside five crashes that left two dead and six injured.
  • PRF says the two Ceará fatalities stemmed from a head-on collision between motorcycles on BR-226 in Pedra Branca, with PEFOCE and the IML handling forensic procedures.
  • In Rio Grande do Norte over the New Year period, PRF registered 10 crashes and two deaths, conducted 666 breath tests, and reported fewer serious accidents compared with last year.
