Pretendo Network has launched an open-source alternative to the now-defunct Nintendo Network, enabling online play on Wii U and 3DS consoles.
The service requires only a DNS change on Wii U consoles, bypassing the need for homebrew or custom firmware.
Supported games include popular titles like Splatoon, Super Smash Bros., and Mario Kart 8, although some third-party games and services remain unsupported.
Pretendo's SSL-based exploit does not require hacking the console, making it accessible to users with minimal technical skills.
The project is still in development, with plans to expand features and eventually archive game content for public access.
