John Anthony Castro, a long-shot Republican presidential candidate who has filed numerous lawsuits to disqualify Donald Trump from the 2024 ballot, was arrested on federal charges of preparing false tax returns for clients.
Castro is accused of promising clients significantly higher tax refunds than other preparers could offer, generating false deductions to achieve these larger refunds.
Castro was indicted on 33 counts of aiding and assisting in the preparation and presentation of a false and fraudulent return, each count carrying a sentence of up to three years in prison if convicted.
Despite his legal troubles, Castro continues to challenge Trump's eligibility in various states, asserting that Trump is barred from the presidency by Section 3 of the 14th Amendment.
