President Murmu Unveils Republic Day ‘At Home’ Invite Showcasing Northeast Heritage

Curated by NID Ahmedabad, the keepsake kit honors artisans from the eight Ashtalakshmi states.

Overview

  • President Droupadi Murmu shared a short film revealing the handcrafted invitation kit for the January 26 ‘At Home’ reception at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
  • Guests will be welcomed with a specially designed Eri silk stole, reflecting the Northeast’s ethical “peace silk” tradition.
  • The invitation arrives in a Tripura-style woven bamboo box with a smoked-bamboo ornament from Meghalaya and decoration inspired by Assamese manuscript painting.
  • Motifs and materials span the region, from the Mithun and Sangai to art forms such as Assam’s Gogona, Manipur’s Longpi black pottery and Mizoram’s puan chei.
  • The project was led by NID’s Prof Andrea Noronha with a team of over 350 contributors, coordinating production with remote craft clusters across the Northeast.
