Overview
- Droupadi Murmu embarked the Indian Navy’s indigenous INS Vaghsheer from Karwar Naval Base on December 28 for a dive on the Western Seaboard.
- Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi accompanied the President during the underwater mission.
- Murmu was briefed on the submarine arm’s role in India’s maritime strategy, interacted with the crew, and commended their professionalism.
- INS Vaghsheer is the sixth and final Project-75 Scorpene/Kalvari-class submarine, commissioned in 2025 and built by Mazagon Dock with technology transfer.
- The sortie makes Murmu only the second Indian President to undertake such a mission after A. P. J. Abdul Kalam in 2006, and it formed part of her four-day tour that includes events in Jharkhand.
