Overview
- A Rashtrapati Bhavan communique issued on Monday, October 12, 2026, named new governors for Tamil Nadu, Keralam, Sikkim, Odisha, Karnataka and Uttarakhand.
- Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar was made full-time Governor of Tamil Nadu, converting the additional charge he held since March into a regular appointment.
- Om Prakash Mathur was moved from Sikkim to Keralam and Dushyant Gautam was named Governor of Sikkim, while Braj Mohan Ram, Sudha Yadav and Dhal Singh Bisen were appointed to Odisha, Karnataka and Uttarakhand respectively.
- All appointments are issued by the President and become operative only when each appointee formally takes charge and is sworn in.
- The choices reinforce a pattern of appointing senior party figures to gubernatorial posts and could shape centre–state relations and administrative continuity in the affected states once the new governors assume office.
