Overview

• Arun Kumar was appointed as a judge of the Allahabad High Court under Article 217, effective upon assuming charge.
• Justice Johnson John, Justice G. U. Girish and Justice C. N. Pratheep Kumar were elevated from additional to permanent judges of the Kerala High Court.
• The Supreme Court Collegium had deferred Arun Kumar’s case in January 2023 after IB observations before recommending him in May 2023 once the IB reported no additional inputs.
• The Centre’s late‑August clearance of Chief Justices Alok Aradhe and Vipul M. Pancholi to the Supreme Court restored the apex court to its full sanctioned strength of 34 judges.
• Following those elevations, the government named Justice Shree Chandrashekhar as acting chief justice of the Bombay High Court and Justice Pavankumar Bhimappa Bajanthri as acting chief justice of the Patna High Court.
