Preorders Open for Bose's Second-Gen QuietComfort Ultra With USB-C Lossless Audio

Lossless USB-C playback with refined noise cancellation addresses common complaints from the first generation.

Overview

  • Bose set the price at $449, with orders opening Sept. 5 and deliveries slated for Oct. 2 in multiple colors including Black, White Smoke, Driftwood Sand, and Midnight Violet.
  • Wired audio over USB-C supports 16-bit playback at 44.1kHz or 48kHz and can double as a low-latency option for gaming, while the 2.5mm analog jack remains.
  • Battery life now reaches up to 30 hours with ANC on, about 23–24 hours with Immersive Audio enabled, and up to 45 hours with ANC off, plus a 15-minute quick charge for roughly three hours of use.
  • An updated ActiveSense algorithm smooths adaptive noise cancellation, users can fully disable or manually adjust ANC, and a new Cinema Mode widens the soundstage and clarifies dialogue for video and spoken word.
  • Usability gains include improved on-head detection that auto-powers and connects, a lay-flat low-power standby designed to last for months, Bluetooth 5.4 with multipoint, Google Fast Pair and Spotify Tap, and support for SBC, AAC and aptX Adaptive codecs but not LDAC, while retailers are discounting the first-gen model to about $379.
