Premier League Handbook Defines Veto Rights and Mandatory Enhanced Broadcast Sessions

Section K of the new handbook requires each club to host two enhanced broadcast sessions, with requests submitted five days prior, interviews limited by question count, vetoes allowed when teams trail, rescheduled access after dressing-room blocks.

Overview

  • Clubs must provide broadcasters with two enhanced access events per season, choosing between dressing-room cameras, half-time interviews or in-match interviews.
  • Broadcasters are required to request enhanced access at least five days before a match and clubs must confirm the approved access type 72 hours in advance.
  • Teams may refuse dressing-room cameras if they are losing at the scheduled time but must grant an alternative access opportunity later in the season.
  • Half-time interviews need mutual confirmation 24 hours before kickoff, must feature a player chosen from a broadcaster shortlist of at least five by the 40th minute, and are limited to three positive, match-related questions.
  • Sky Sports will air a record minimum of 215 Premier League games under the new four-year deal, beginning with Liverpool’s home match against Bournemouth on August 15.
