Overview
- The Beechcraft A36 Bonanza, which took off on September 7, crashed minutes later at Stockleigh and killed pilot Ian Campbell and his daughter Hannah.
- CCTV reviewed by the ATSB showed multiple failed attempts to start the engine at Archerfield Airport and an engineer later assisted using a battery cart.
- Witnesses reported hearing the engine splutter and saw the aircraft flying low before it dropped, and wreckage showed propeller damage and extended landing gear consistent with low engine power at impact.
- The aircraft was not required to carry a flight data or cockpit voice recorder and many cockpit instruments capable of recording were destroyed, which limits direct data recovery.
- Investigators will further analyse surviving audio, maintenance records and other material before issuing a final report, a process that could affect private light‑aircraft safety guidance and maintenance practices.
