Preliminary post-mortems show Bicester Motion blaze victims died from building collapse injuries

An unexplained death investigation led by the Major Crime Unit alongside fire experts from the Health and Safety Executive is under way.

  • Post-mortem examinations found firefighters Martyn Sadler and Jennie Logan and member of the public Dave Chester died from multiple traumatic injuries consistent with a structural collapse.
  • The fire broke out around 6:40 pm on May 15 at Bicester Motion, a former RAF base now home to more than 50 classic car restoration and engineering businesses.
  • Two other firefighters suffered serious injuries during the blaze and remain hospitalized in stable condition.
  • Thames Valley Police’s Major Crime Unit is collaborating with fire investigators and the Health and Safety Executive to determine the blaze’s cause.
  • Local residents and the families of the three victims have organized memorial services and fundraising efforts in the wake of the tragedy.
