The bullet, which lodged in Heinold's shoulder, first passed through the bedroom of her two children, narrowly missing them.
Doctors decided not to remove the bullet due to Heinold's pregnancy, avoiding the need for anesthesia.
Police believe the bullet was fired from an open space behind the home, but no arrests have been made.
Heinold, who doesn't believe she was targeted, has since been released from the hospital.
