Clara Thomann, a 33-year-old science teacher from Santa Barbara, fell 164 feet into a gorge near Preveli Monastery in Crete on December 23 while six months pregnant.
Thomann suffered severe head, chest, and leg injuries and was declared brain-dead before passing away on December 29; her unborn child also did not survive the fall.
Rescue efforts involved 21 firefighters and specialized crews, who transported her to local hospitals for treatment before her condition worsened.
Thomann’s family honored her wishes as an organ donor, with her heart, liver, kidneys, and other organs donated to save lives in Greece.
